What is a DO?
A Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.), like a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.), is a fully licensed physician who has completed four years of medical school and postgraduate residency training in a chosen specialty. D.O.s have the same rights, privileges, and level of education as M.D.s.
In addition to comprehensive medical training, a D.O. also studies the body’s mechanics, with a special focus on how the musculoskeletal system affects various illnesses and pain.
